A unique prayer item to the retreat center for the Year of St. Joseph is the Seven Sorrows and Joys of St. Joseph Chaplet available in The Carpenter's Shop for $10. The chaplet is comprised of spiral bound cards with the prayers and a corresponding hand-made sacramental with wooden beads and a medal of St. Joseph to help pray this powerful devotion.
“By meditating on these sorrows and joys of St. Joseph, we can come to understand how God can bring good out of even the most trying of sorrows,” said Father David Huemmer, chaplain and spiritual director. “When we pray with the seven sorrows and joys of St. Joseph during the Year of St. Joseph, we can come to a better understanding of how he navigated through them with a steadfast faith that the Lord would provide for him through the difficulties and sorrows of life. We also can come to see through them the silent strength he had, as well as obedience to all the things the Lord asked of him in his fatherly role.”
The devotion was designed to be prayed on the seven Sundays before the Solemnity of St. Joseph on March 19. Each Sunday features one of the seven sorrows and joys of St. Joseph.
“But this chaplet is something that can be done anytime during the year,” said Father Huemmer. “Although it would be an especially effective way to honor St. Joseph on Wednesdays as this is the day of the week dedicated to him.”
