Psalm 115 is the third of the “Great Hallel” psalms that were sung at the Last Supper. This psalm invites us to consider in whom we place our trust. There are so many things that draw us into placing our hope in them. These things or people can soon become our idols. He calls three sets of people to trust in the Lord. The psalmist calls us to remember the faithfulness of the Lord who is our help and our shield. Some interesting insights for understanding this psalm might help: the shield in reference is a big, five foot one that a person could hide behind for protection! Fear of the Lord is seen by some spiritual writers as a
seriousness about living one’s faith. These insights might help to enter the psalm from an interesting viewpoint. As Jesus sang this psalm with the disciples at the Last Supper, maybe these thoughts helped Him as He approached His upcoming Passion.
