Across our culture, there is a natural curiosity about the subject of Angels. We see this in church, but also in movies and television. Popular shows like “Touched by an Angel” and “Angels in the Outfield” demonstrate that average viewers are inclined to ponder questions about Angels and their role in their lives.
If you have ever found yourself in this same state of wonder about angels, the Angels Day of Reflection is just the thing for you! Through the concept of what we pray is what we believe, we can come to know more of what the church teaches us about these spiritual beings who serve the Most High and aid us on our journey to our heavenly home.
Offered on Tuesday, September 29th, this retreat will feature conferences on the Archangels and Guardian Angels centering around the feast days for both.
The morning conference will cover the Archangels—Saints Michael, Gabriel and Raphael—and their important roles in the history of salvation. These are the only three angels whose names are mentioned in Scripture.
September 29th used to be called “Michaelmas” for the Mass that celebrates St. Michael. In 1921, The memorials of Gabriel and Raphael were added to the Roman calendar. Then, in 1970, a calendar revision joined their individual feasts to Michael’s creating the Feast of the Archangels.
The afternoon conference will feature Guardian Angels and what we know of them through the scriptures, catechism, and the liturgy of the Church. Devotion to guardian angels developed with the birth of the monastic tradition. A feast in honor of the guardian angels was first observed in the 16th century and, in 1615, Pope Paul V added it to the Roman calendar.
Celebrate the Feast of the Archangels and the Feast of the Guardian Angels with this retreat that also includes Mass of the Archangels, daytime prayer for the Archangels, a delicious lunch and time for prayer and reflection.
