A grotto is a natural or artificial cave used by humans in both modern times and in antiquity as a place of prayer. Grottos are usually associated with miraculous apparitions.
Near the Labyrinth is the Little Flower Grotto along with a bench and covered picnic table. This small grotto was added in 1926 shortly after the canonization of St. Therese, the Little Flower of Jesus, a Carmelite nun (May 17, 1925). The statue of St. Therese was formed of Carrara marble from Italy and is four and a half feet tall. Placed opposite of the Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto, the stones around the statue were hauled in by farmers in the surrounding area.
