History of the John XXIII Retreat Center
In 1966, Robert P. Cronin gave a home to the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana in memory of his parents. Bishop Raymond Gallagher appointed Fr. Patrick Keith Hosey as the first director and dedicated the John XXIII Retreat Center on September 29, 1966.
Sr. Cathy Lucas, SP (1969-71) and Sr. Margaret Kiefer, OSF, of Rochester, Minnesota (1971-1976) were invited to assist Fr. Hosey. Sr. Maureen Mangen, CPPS, of Dayton, Ohio came in 1971 and remained Co-Director through 2005. Fr. Hosey remained Director until his retirement in June 2006.
The Diocese's previous retreat center, the John XXIII Retreat Center, 407 W McDonald St, in Hartford City, IN, closed at the end of 2016 after 50 years of ministry.
