One of the special things about going on a retreat at St. Joseph’s is finding the special spot at the retreat center where one can settle in and open up to the Lord. It is always fun to find out from retreatants where their special place is! In this time of being home bound, one can still set up a special place in one’s home to help facilitate the encounter with the Lord. Below are some tips that you can use to help in this process.
Setting up a Prayer Space for your Home Retreat
Find a quiet spot in your home that can be set aside just for prayer. This can be a corner in a room or a small room that is currently not used for other things.
Set up a table and chair in the area. On the table you might want to include a picture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and St. Joseph. It would be good to have space for the Bible.
On the wall in your special area, a crucifix would be essential.
You may also include other pictures, icons, or statues of your favorite saints.
If you have family at home, include them in the process – adding things that will help them to pray too!
